Bangladesh and Brunei Darussalam have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across manpower recruitment, trade and investment, energy, and air connectivity.

The discussions took place during a courtesy meeting between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and Brunei High Commissioner to Bangladesh Haji Haris bin Othman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 29 July.

During the meeting, the state minister highlighted Bangladesh’s interest in expanding employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers in Brunei. She also emphasized the need for stronger business-to-business engagement, closer collaboration between women entrepreneurs, and the establishment of a Bangladesh–Brunei Chamber of Commerce to further enhance bilateral trade.

The Brunei high commissioner welcomed these proposals and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening trade and investment cooperation with Bangladesh.

Bangladesh also sought greater market access in Brunei for its pharmaceutical, jute, and agricultural products, including mangoes.

To advance economic cooperation, both sides agreed to establish a joint business group comprising representatives from business chambers, entrepreneurs, and investors of both countries to identify and pursue mutually beneficial trade and investment opportunities.
