Akij Resource makes electronics investment, a concern of the diversified Akij Group, enters Bangladesh’s electronics retail segment. Marking a strategic move into a market valued at an estimated USD 3–4 billion annually. The country’s consumer electronics market has been growing at approximately 8–10% per year, supported by rising per capita income (now over USD 2,700), rapid urbanization, and expanding digital penetration.

Bangladesh, with a population exceeding 170 million, has witnessed a steady rise in demand for refrigerators, air conditioners, televisions, smartphones, and small home appliances. The domestic electronics manufacturing sector has also expanded significantly over the past decade. More than 100 local and international brands assembling or manufacturing products within the country. Annual refrigerator and television production alone exceeds several million units, reflecting strong domestic consumption and increasing localization.

Akij Resource electronics investment in retail expansion is expected to strengthen distribution networks and improve after-sales service coverage. Enhancing organized retail penetration in a market still largely dominated by fragmented dealerships. Organized retail currently accounts for a relatively small share of total electronics sales, presenting substantial room for structured retail growth.

The move signals continued investor confidence in Bangladesh’s growing middle-class base, projected to reach over 30 million people by 2030. And its evolving consumer economy.
