Bangladesh and Egypt have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation by organizing regular foreign office consultations. This decision came after a meeting between Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Hassan Shoukry on May 4th. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the opening session of the 15th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Gambia.
The two ministers discussed several key issues, including boosting trade and investment between their countries and addressing the Rohingya crisis. Hasan Mahmud proposed mutual visa exemption and trade expansion with Egypt. In principle, the Egyptian foreign minister agreed to sign an agreement on diplomatic and official visa exemptions.
Furthermore, the Egyptian foreign minister pledged full support for constructing a Chancery building for the Bangladesh mission in Egypt.
Following this, the Secretary General of the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO), Deemah Al Yahya, met with Hasan Mahmud. She informed him that DCO member states are drafting a “Multilateral AI Agreement” for the international use of artificial intelligence.
This development marks a significant step in strengthening Bangladesh-Egypt relations and enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, and digital innovation.
