German Firm to Build 500 MW Solar Panel Plant in Bangladesh

German-based Sonnex Energie GmbH is set to establish a 500 MW Solar PV module manufacturing hub in Bangladesh.

This announcement came from a formal launching of Sonnex Energie (Bangladesh) Ltd, which emerged as a strategic joint venture between Sonnex Energie GmbH and Solar EPC Development Ltd at a function in a city hotel on Tuesday.

Sonnex Energie is renowned for its high-efficiency solar modules and PV inverters, and Solar EPC Development Ltd is a market player in turnkey solar solutions in Bangladesh.

The officials of the company said that the ceremonial launch signified far more than a corporate alliance—it represents a shared vision to lead South Asia’s transition toward a green and self-reliant energy future.

This venture’s operational roadmap includes the establishment of a 500 MW solar panel manufacturing plant, reducing dependence on imports while ensuring competitive pricing and superior quality, they said.

They noted that plans are underway to develop automated assembly plants, advanced testing laboratories, and solar-specific technical training centers, ensuring meaningful technology transfer and a skilled workforce to support a rapidly evolving green economy.

The venture would establish local logistics hubs and warehousing infrastructure to strengthen supply chain resilience. It would offer larger scaling of after-sales and O&M networks, enabling long-term system performance and client satisfaction.

In the 1st phase of our joint venture, we will focus on comprehensive market development for Sonnex Energie in Bangladesh, ensuring deployment for the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) sector as well as utility-scale solar projects.

In the 2nd Phase, it aims to establish a manufacturing capacity of 500 MW annually by 2028, scaling up to gigawatt (GW)-level production by 2035.

The event was chaired by Eric, managing director of Sonnex EnergieGmbH, and addressed by Ni Xiaopeng Liam, managing director of Huawei.
