British-Irish company Deltaport Ltd is set to invest $36 million to establish a garments factory in the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority Economic Zone (BEPZA EZ) located in Mirsarai, Chattogram. The factory aims to produce 20 million pieces of protective clothing, workwear, garments, PPE, hospital gowns, masks, bed sheets, curtains, and more each year. This initiative is expected to generate employment for 5,980 Bangladeshi workers. Deltaport Ltd is affiliated with Eastport Ltd, a garment manufacturer based in Cumilla EPZ, operating since 2013.
The investment agreement was signed at BEPZA Complex in Dhaka, with Md Ashraful Kabir, member (Investment Promotion) of BEPZA, and Junaid Iqbal Umerani, representing Deltaport, present. The event was also attended by BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, member (Engineering) Mohammad Faruque Alam, and member (Finance) ANM Foyzul Haque.
