China is set to import 1,000 tonnes of Bangladeshi hilsa fish, marking a significant boost in trade between the two nations. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has expressed interest in importing 1,000 tonnes of hilsa fish from Bangladesh, as the local variety has high demand in China.

The envoy made the remarks during a meeting with Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin at the commerce secretariat in Dhaka, according to a statement from the commerce ministry.

The Chinese ambassador also conveyed his country’s willingness to invest in mango, jackfruit, and guava cultivation in Bangladesh and increase imports of these fruits from the South Asian nation.
