Bangladesh, France eye trade, investment in infrastructure

Bangladesh and France have expressed mutual interest in expanding bilateral trade and exploring investment opportunities in quality and resilient infrastructure development, particularly in the railway sector. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and French President Emmanuel Macron hope that the upcoming Bangladesh-France Investment Summit, scheduled for October 23-25, 2023, in Paris and Toulouse, will provide a fresh impetus to their trade and investment relations. President Macron expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and emphasized the enduring friendship between the two nations.

France has confidence in Bangladesh’s economic prospects for shared growth and inclusive development. Both countries acknowledged the depth of their economic partnership across various sectors and expressed a commitment to further deepen and widen this collaboration through business-to-business initiatives. France praised Bangladesh’s adoption of the National Action Plan on the labor sector (2021-2026) and underscored the importance of its implementation and economic diversification for a smooth and sustainable transition under the European Union’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP). President Macron’s bilateral visit to Bangladesh in September 2023 aimed to strengthen relations, with both nations committing to regular high-level dialogues to enhance the strategic dimension of their partnership.
