NBR Introduces Measures to Facilitate Raw Material Sourcing for RMG

Bangladesh has introduced new measures to facilitate raw material sourcing for non‑bonded ready‑made garment (RMG) factories. Supporting improved supply chain efficiency and strengthening the country’s apparel manufacturing ecosystem.

The initiative, introduced by the National Board of Revenue (NBR), aims to support around 1,100 non‑bonded garment factories. These factories across the country will be enabled smoother access to essential raw material sourcing required for production. According to the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, these factories export garments worth around $6.5 billion annually and employ nearly seven lakh workers. The policy is expected to help factories maintain consistent production cycles and respond more effectively to international buyer demand.

Bangladesh’s RMG sector remains the backbone of the country’s export economy. According to industry estimates, the sector accounts for over 80% of Bangladesh’s total export earnings. And employs more than 4 million workers, making it one of the largest garment manufacturing hubs in the world.

Non‑bonded factories play an important role in supplying garments to the domestic market as well as supporting export-oriented supply chains. Facilitating improved sourcing mechanisms allows these factories to procure inputs more efficiently, contributing to stronger operational capacity across the textile and apparel value chain.

The new measures are also expected to enhance coordination between suppliers, manufacturers, and regulatory authorities, supporting a more streamlined procurement process for fabrics and other key inputs used in garment production.

Bangladesh’s garment industry has continued to demonstrate resilience and steady growth over the past decade. With supportive policy measures, improved supply chain infrastructure, and increasing global demand for competitively produced apparel, the country continues to reinforce its position as a leading destination for apparel manufacturing and sourcing.

Industry observers note that facilitating efficient access to raw materials will further strengthen Bangladesh’s manufacturing ecosystem. With this support, the country will see continued expansion of the globally competitive apparel sector.
