The government has officially approved the establishment of a national taskforce dedicated to advancing the semiconductor sector in Bangladesh. Spearheaded by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), this initiative seeks to unite Non-Resident Bangladeshi (NRB) industry leaders, academics, and top government representatives to drive growth in this critical industry.
The taskforce aims to enhance Bangladesh’s capabilities in semiconductor testing, assembly, and chip design, representing a pivotal step toward realizing the country’s potential in this high-value, technology-driven sector.
“Bangladesh’s strategic location near the Asia-Pacific supply chain, coupled with its competitive labor costs and a young, skilled workforce, positions it as an attractive destination for global semiconductor leaders. By leveraging the expertise of the Bangladeshi diaspora, industry, academia, and policymakers, we aim to fortify our role in the global value chain and foster a future-ready, innovation-driven economy,” stated Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of BIDA and BEZA.
The taskforce is tasked with identifying immediate growth opportunities, addressing policy and skill development gaps, and proposing infrastructure and incentive frameworks to attract international investments. It is expected to deliver actionable recommendations by the end of January.
