Bangladesh’s plastic exports are growing due to increasing demand from foreign buyers, said the chief of the Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BPGMEA).
Exporters achieved 24 percent year-on-year growth in shipments of plastic products, reaching $182 million in the July-January period of the 2024-25 fiscal year, compared to the same period a year ago, according to data from the Export Promotion Bureau.
Plastic exports are expected to rise further as global demand increases, said BPGMEA President Shamim Ahmed at its office.
The domestic plastic market is worth approximately $2.99 billion, growing by 20 percent annually, he added.
Ahmed said the government aims to double the contribution of plastic goods to the national economy to two percent by 2028, from the current one percent.
