Mongla Port Generates Tk 210 Crore Revenue in First Half of FY25

Mongla Port has reported a revenue of Tk 210 crore in the first six months of the fiscal year 2024-25, driven by a robust volume of imports and exports.

During this period, the port saw the arrival of 413 commercial vessels and handled the import of 5,637 vehicles via 10 car-carrying ships. Additionally, the total cargo throughput for imports and exports reached an impressive 52,84,471 tonnes, as stated in a press release by the Mongla Port Authority.

The beginning of 2025 marked a significant surge in foreign commercial vessel traffic at Mongla Port, with 28 ships docking in the first 10 days of January alone. On Friday, two container ships carrying cargo destined for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant were anchored at the port. As of now, 18 vessels are stationed at various points within the port’s Pashur Channel, the press release confirmed.

Md Makruzzaman, Deputy Director of the Mongla Port Authority, highlighted the increased activity, saying, “Currently, 18 commercial ships are anchored at different locations within the port’s Pashur Channel, carrying diverse cargoes such as coal, fertiliser, clinker, LPG, containers, and stone.”

The port has experienced notable growth, as reflected in the fiscal year 2023-24 performance metrics. Compared to the previous year, the port recorded a 2.30% rise in foreign ship arrivals, a 9.72% increase in cargo volume, a 16.78% boost in container traffic, and a 13% growth in vehicle imports.

Mongla Port’s upward trajectory underscores its growing importance in facilitating trade and supporting the country’s economic activities.
