The Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangladesh formally launched FoodTech Bangladesh, a four-year-long PPP-based development programme that will be co-implemented by Larive International and LightCastle Partners.
The consortium consisted of multiple private sector players, such as: Aftab Bahumukhi Farms Ltd., Gemini Sea Food, Nutreco, and Viqon. The cooperation aimed at investing 6 million Euros for the sustainable development in the sector, with prospects to establish 3 centers of excellence in Sylhet, Khulna and Cox’s Bazar with the objective of demonstrating improved and more sustainable techniques of fish breeding and cultivation.
The contribution of the partnership is expected to bring about the following:
- Providing technical assistance to fish breeders and farmers along with research and trail of on-farm products
- Develop and upgrade an aqua feed line to ensure availability of locally produced specialized fish feed
- Demonstrating best-practices and transferring necessary skills and knowledge to farmers
- Train over 1,600 local fish breeders and farmers at the centers of excellence
All in all, the end result is expected to bring food security by introducing the technical know-how and sustainable by ensuring the least amount of resources is used for the highest yield.
